California-based e-mobility company Splach will launch its new e-scooter/trail-ready moto hybrid, dubbed the Transformer, on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo next week.

The Transformer will undoubtedly make bystanders do a double-take. It looks like a mini motorbike that’s been modified to sport kick scooter handlebars. This setup allows riders of various heights to jump on board, and the stem can be adjusted to cater to scrunched-up seated positions or standing.

Splach claims the unique moto-scooter is suitable for off-road adventuring and commuting. It sports a proprietary 960-W (peak) hub motor that offers a maximum speed of 24 mph (38 km/h), and it gets there from a standstill in 4-6 seconds. It’s also expected to be able to take on 28% inclines. In addition, the removable battery can be swapped out for a fresh one in seconds and offers 28 miles (45 km) of the per-charge range.

  • Integrated lighting on the front
  • Footpegs on either side to keep the rider in a forward position
  • 10-inch fat tires
  • Springy dual suspension
  • Disc braking on the front and back

According to the company, the low center of gravity should “ensure stability and brilliant handling on the road.” Regarding customization, panel sections and fenders that can be swapped out for different colored pieces are available.

On July 5, the Transformer will hit Indiegogo with pre-orders for US$999, which represents a massive discount on the expected retail price of $2,999. Watch the moto-scooter in action in the video below.
